Checklist For Setting Up Your New Home

This is a checklist of often overlooked items that will help you feel confident about safety in your new home. 

    • Re-key all door locks.
    • Consider a monitored alarm system with smoke detection.
    • Install outside flood lights with motion sensors.
    • Install smoke detectors no more than 15 feet from each bedroom and test monthly.
    • Install carbon monoxide detectors. Place in occupied bedrooms.
    • Have a Fire Ladder available for 2nd floor bedrooms.
    • Keep a working fire extinguisher in the kitchen.
    • Know where to turn off Electric, Water, and Gas in an emergency.
    • Test water heater Pressure Temperature Relief Valve 2 times a year.
    • Clean wood burning fireplace chimneys as needed.
    • Have a working Flashlight available for power outages.
    • Protect small children from falling out of windows with low sill heights.
